Psst: If you are on my mailing list, then you already know all about this.

Feel free to take the next five minutes to do something other than read my latest post. Like do a round of sun salutes. Or take ten really deep breaths. Or email someone you love to say ‘You are awesome’. Or sign up for the Zen Peacekeeper Guide to the Holidays.

Now, the rest of you. I have something special for you this holiday and today is the last day to sign up, so someone pointed out I should probably write about it here on my site. Oh yeah. Duh! So – here it is!

The holidays are upon us.

Peace on earth. And goodwill to all. Right?

What? It feels more like stress at home and ill will towards family?

You’re not alone.

Last year, the beginning of the holiday season had me feeling a little over-caffeinated (even though I wasn’t drinking any caffeine) and under-rested. It seemed as though I couldn’t quite keep up with the pace of my own life or my own expectations.

What you want for Christmas…

You want to enjoy your families over the holidays, but you end up feeling ‘not quite at home’ with the people who you are supposed to be closest too.

You want to lay the table beautifully, buy the fancy wine, give your children ethical, sustainable gifts, and do it all with your hair brushed and your lipstick on straight.

But you end up giving into pleas for the new Barbie, don’t even know which is the fancy wine, and never seem to leave enough time to brush your hair before the guests arrive.

You want to feel free to be generous, maybe even a little bit indulgent, you end up feeling financially squeezed, maybe even a little bit scared.

This mix of high expectations, financial pressure and family tension puts even the easiest of our relationships under strain.

You start to wish that the holidays would just be over and done with. And they haven’t even begun yet.

Peace on earth (and between your ears)

That’s why this year I am sharing the practices I’ve learned to keep my inner and outer peace under holiday pressure.

I can’t teach you to knit cute home-made presents. Or lay a beautiful table.

But I can tell you the truth about my own holiday practices – what I do, when I do it (and when I don’t) and how those practices bring peace for myself, and those nearby (whether that’s the woman serving me at the bank or my family).

What you get

It’ve very simple.

For $30 ($1 a day) you’ll get a peace-offering (in the form of an email) from me every day from 23 November to 23 December. Those emails include simple tips from me about things you can do throughout the holiday season to maintain your inner equilibrium even in the midst of extended family dinners.

Is this a yoga course?

Nope. Although we will be doing some breathing, stretching and grounding practices that come straight out of my yoga classes, you do not need to own a yoga mat or be ‘flexible’ to do this course.

Worried you won’t have enough time for this over the silly season?

I understand.
And I promise to keep my messages short and the practices simple – things you can fit into even your crazy, busy life. When I was talking to Tara Gentile about this course she said something along the lines of ‘Marianne, if you can fit these practices into your life then anyone can’. And it is true. I promise.
If you did even one of these practices once a week over the next month you would get more than $30 worth of inner peace (without even trying to calculate the flow on effect for the people around you).
Worried that this is the sort of thing that only works for people who have already got their lives together. Those mythical people who find meditation easy, and who never lose their cool?
Well, I’ll let you in on a secret: I’m not one of those people.

And this stuff still helps me.

This is not a course in self-improvement. I’m not going to tell you how to be a better person these holidays. This is a course in befriending ourselves just as we are. Learning how to find satisfaction right where we are. And in doing a little bit less.
Except for breathing. We breath more. And who couldn’t do with a bit more breathing-space these holidays?
Join me. Let’s make some peace together these holidays. Starting with ourselves.
