Remember Faezeh?

She was my human rights assistant in Afghanistan, an exceptionally bright and hard-working young woman born in Iran and raised in Afghanistan.

Her dream, you may remember, is to be the first female Secretary General of the United Nations. Watch this video of Faezeh to find out why.

Last year, with your help, we raised several thousand dollars to help Faezeh secure her place at a University in the United States. Then she had delays and problems with her visa. It looked like things weren’t going to work out.

Well, yesterday she wrote to me from Middlebury, Vermont. Next week she starts classes at Middlebury College.

Faezeh was always going to find a way to make her dreams come true, and I’m personally ready to put my money on her being the first female head of the UN (assuming New Zealand’s own Helen Clark doesn’t beat her to it).

But in the case of this particular dream your generosity was an essential part of her journey.

So thank you. For your generosity. For your belief in the possibility of a fairer world. For the hope and potential that your generosity supports.

I’m about to launch my biggest fundraising effort ever, a slightly crazy ‘mondo beyondo’ dream about us all working together to make a real difference to the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa. This is a great time to be reminded of your generosity, and of the real and powerful change it can bring about.

Thank you.
