Are you a non-pretzel like me? Or maybe you’re rocking your curves, like my co-conspirator on this course, Anna Guest-Jelley, founder of Curvy Yoga.
Yoga has proven benefits for people of all shapes and sizes. But sometimes it can be a real drag to try out yoga among the hip, pretzel scene.
This course was created for everyone who contacted me about wanting a yoga practice for your body–the one you have today that carries you through your day, picks up kids after school, navigates an old illness or injury and offers a warm ear to a friend.
Anna and I collaborated to create a body positive 30 Days of Curvy Yoga which crafts yoga to meet the needs of people of all sizes and abilities.
We know what it’s like to practice yoga with a body that probably won’t be on the cover of a yoga mag anytime soon (although we’d totally buy that mag if so!), whether because our curves are too fabulous to be contained there, that nagging knee injury or that creaky noise your back makes in the morning when you’re getting out of bed.
Maybe you’re one of the many people who contacted Marianne with questions about how to modify yoga poses for curvy bodies. Maybe you’ve been in touch with Anna about how to get comfortable with yoga in the privacy of your own home without having to navigate the hip yoga scence. Or maybe the support of a community of other non-pretzels is just what you need to develop that home yoga practice you’ve been dreaming of.

“The 30 days of Curvy Yoga has been an amazing and life changing event in my life. I was at a place in my life where I needed to do something different and risky for me, this was my risk. I am a six foot tall woman who is over 200 lbs. I don’t feel very comfortable in my body most days, but when doing the Curvy Yoga with Anna and Marianne, I was blown away at what my body can do, and what I can when I allow myself to enjoy the peace and love of my body and what it is capable of, I am so grateful and humbled by this class and I have continued to practice and hold my poses longer and with more stillness. Thank you!

Marianne’s 30 Days of Yoga was one of the best investments I’ve made in my own wellness – and it was a steal! Her warmth, intelligence and commitment to her students radiate across the Internet, and you feel not only that you are receiving top-quality instruction, but that you are working side-by-side. I can’t recommend 30 Days of Yoga highly enough for those looking to establish a home practice.” – Kristen Lisanti
30 days of Curvy Yoga is an online program designed to support you to begin a regular practice of yoga in the comfort of your own home. I’ve worked with Anna Guest-Jelley, yoga teacher and founder of Curvy Yoga, to ensure it meets the needs of curvy bodies.
More than 600 people have taken the standard 30 Days of Yoga course. The feedback I get is overwhelming, it works. People who have never been able to get into yoga at all are discovering that they actually love it.
Why? Because I’m teaching what I know best. I’m the expert on struggling to get into a steady home practice of yoga because I’ve struggled myself. I’ve tried bribing myself into it, nagging myself into it, forcing myself into it. None of them worked. What works – for me and for hundreds of others – is the simple, compassionate approach I set out in this course.
My approach is grounded in a radical form of self-kindness because I believe that we all respond better to kindness than criticism. And because kindness works. It’s a powerful and transformative force. Never under-estimate kindness!
But I knew it could be even better. I wanted to create a version just for those of you who have written to me saying that you don’t think your body is quite right for yoga, whether because you are a bit curvier than the models on the cover of Yoga Journal, or simply because – out of respect for your body – you prefer to move a bit more slowly and gently.
This course is for you!
“When I first saw “curvy yoga” on the internet, I thought it would be a gimmick. Hey, let’s target fatties because they’ll fall for anything. Did I really need a special yoga class? Couldn’t I already do it? Then I flashed back to trying to do the Sun Salutation at home on the Wii, and all I could picture was my butt in the air. Maybe the curvy yoga thing wasn’t such a bad idea. I roped in a friend and we really enjoyed ourselves. And, I’ve learned ways to adapt myself so that I can do these positions in the right way. I’m definitely a convert to curvy yoga!”
“Any body, curviliear, parallel, or perpendicular, could breathe freer with Anna’s Curvy Yoga. A sensitive combo of the authentic and the attainable, poses are held for an extended time. No rushing to conform to a set series of moves. So, muscles are challenged, stretched, and then inspired to move more gracefully next time. I’m a big fan.”
~Frances J. Pursell
It’s a unique online yoga course that brings the benefits of a yoga class (access to your teacher and connection to a yoga community) into your own home. The course includes:
“Wowza. This is all so deeply thought out and thorough and beautiful. Impressive!”
“I feel so charged when I enter a Curvy Yoga class. The energy of all those curvy bodies really pushes me and mypractice. I think others feel that too. Its revolutionary yoga! How awesome is that?”

Thanks so much for offering this course! I got so much out of it. I FINALLY have a burgeoning home practice! The course really demystified it for me, helped me to understand that a home practice CAN be just 10 minutes in the morning, or 30 minutes, whatever I can make time for. I really appreciate your personality – your sense of humor, warmth and insight. Thanks, too, for your availability via the calls and email; I really appreciated your answer to my question.” ~ Michaela

If you are ready for it, it will. This is a course about making a small but significant change to your regular daily routines. You don’t have to practice yoga every day, but if you decide to practice three times a week, you are going to need to make changes for that to happen. I’m confident that I have the insights, the tools and the compassion to support you to make those changes – but you need to want to make them. If you are ready, then this course will work for you.
I’ve had all sorts of people do the 30 days of yoga: from brand new beginner yogis who have never done a yoga class in their life to yoga veterans who have been practicing for 20 years but struggle to get a regular home practice going. The common factor amongst those who are able to establish their own home practice through this course was that they set a clear intention to do so. Once you are clear on your intention, the rest will flow. We’ll talk more about that in the course. In terms of physical ability, this course is suitable for 95% of people. For more information and to find out who the other 5% are, read these answers to frequently asked questions.

Studies have shown that yoga can help improve physical strength and endurance as well as improved balance and flexibility. Research also shows that a regular yoga practice (including postures, breathing and meditation) can offer relief from asthma, chronic back pain, arthritis, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder amongst other problems. For many of us, the most valuable benefits of yoga are effective stress management and better sleep.
‘I’m so crazy about the way you teach. It’s absolutely different than every teacher I’ve ever tried. I understand everything you’re talking about and I feel inspired. You’re amazing.’
“After years of loving yoga fiercely and in spite of never seeing bodies like mine in classes or in yoga media, I was astonished and delighted to find Curvy Yoga right in my own back yard. Not only are Curvy Yoga classes warm, welcoming, safe spaces to extend and explore my ever-evolving physical practice but Anna’s writing – and her tireless dedication to cultivating conversation and community – keeps me feeling like I’m centered and mindful. I would not be as confident as I am without the gentle nudge and lift that Curvy Yoga gives me whenever i need support, in class or on my own.”

You can read more about my yoga lineage here. Above all else, I believe in the power of kindness as a central teaching force and that we are ultimately each our own best teacher. Anna is a bit of an anomaly: a curvy woman who practices and teaches yoga. Despite not dreaming of putting her leg behind her head, she learns, practices, and teaches yoga because of its transformative powers in her life. Through reflecting on her struggles with self-esteem, weight, and body image (at last count, she had tried over 65 different diets), she hopes to open possibilities for curvy individuals and their allies to enter into conversation and action around living joyfully regardless of size.

Nita Apple is the technical and administrative wonder-woman who helps me make sure that the 30 days of yoga experience goes as smoothly as possibly for you, and who helps me find time for my own yoga practice and self-care.
Nita is your first and best bet on any technical issues related to registering for this course, or any problems or questions you might have about the logistics of the course itself either before you register or once you are under way. I may be the world’s expert on struggling to establish a home yoga practice and a boundless source of compassion when it comes to your efforts to get on the mat, but I am quite possibly the worst person to ask if you are having trouble downloading the videos, or accessing the members page. That’s what Nita is here for. And for that I am eternally grateful.
Nita is also a yogini, so she’s the perfect person to work with me on this course and she won’t mind at all if you slip a little bit of yoga chat into your conversations about PayPal or passwords.
For any technical or administrative questions about this course, please don’t hesitate to email Nita: nita at marianne-elliott dot com.
