Yoga has proven benefits for people of all shapes and sizes. But sometimes it can be a real drag to try out yoga among the hip, pretzel scene.
This course was created for everyone who contacted me about wanting a yoga practice for your body–the one you have today that carries you through your day, picks up kids after school, navigates an old illness or injury and offers a warm ear to a friend.
Anna and I collaborated to create a body positive 30 Days of Curvy Yoga which crafts yoga to meet the needs of people of all sizes and abilities.
We know what it’s like to practice yoga with a body that probably won’t be on the cover of a yoga mag anytime soon (although we’d totally buy that mag if so!), whether because our curves are too fabulous to be contained there, that nagging knee injury or that creaky noise your back makes in the morning when you’re getting out of bed.

30 days of Curvy Yoga is an online program designed to support you to begin a regular practice of yoga in the comfort of your own home. I’ve worked with Anna Guest-Jelley, yoga teacher and founder of Curvy Yoga, to ensure it meets the needs of curvy bodies.
More than 600 people have taken the standard 30 Days of Yoga course. The feedback I get is overwhelming, it works. People who have never been able to get into yoga at all are discovering that they actually love it.
Why? Because I’m teaching what I know best. I’m the expert on struggling to get into a steady home practice of yoga because I’ve struggled myself. I’ve tried bribing myself into it, nagging myself into it, forcing myself into it. None of them worked. What works – for me and for hundreds of others – is the simple, compassionate approach I set out in this course.
My approach is grounded in a radical form of self-kindness because I believe that we all respond better to kindness than criticism. And because kindness works. It’s a powerful and transformative force. Never under-estimate kindness!
But I knew it could be even better. I wanted to create a version just for those of you who have written to me saying that you don’t think your body is quite right for yoga, whether because you are a bit curvier than the models on the cover of Yoga Journal, or simply because – out of respect for your body – you prefer to move a bit more slowly and gently.

Anna and I will be available to answer quick questions if you’re stuck in your practice. But you may find you need a bit more help. If you find you have lots of questions about your practice, have unusual challenges, or if you simply would like to have a bit of one-on-one time with Anna or Marianne through your 30 days, I’ m available to coach you by Skype or email. At any time during the course you’ll be able to add one or more 30 minute one-on-one Skype coaching session with either Anna or Marianne to your course for US$50 per session.
If you are ready for it, it will. This is a course about making a small but significant change to your regular daily routines. You don’t have to practice yoga every day, but if you decide to practice three times a week, you are going to need to make changes for that to happen. I’m confident that I have the insights, the tools and the compassion to support you to make those changes – but you need to want to make them. If you are ready, then this course will work for you.
I’ve had all sorts of people do the 30 days of yoga: from brand new beginner yogis who have never done a yoga class in their life to yoga veterans who have been practicing for 20 years but struggle to get a regular home practice going. The common factor amongst those who are able to establish their own home practice through this course was that they set a clear intention to do so. Once you are clear on your intention, the rest will flow. We’ll talk more about that in the course. In terms of physical ability, this course is suitable for 95% of people. Studies have shown that yoga can help improve physical strength and endurance as well as improved balance and flexibility. Research also shows that a regular yoga practice (including postures, breathing and meditation) can offer relief from asthma, chronic back pain, arthritis, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder amongst other problems. For many of us, the most valuable benefits of yoga are effective stress management and better sleep.

Anna is a bit of an anomaly: a curvy woman who practices and teaches yoga. Despite not dreaming of putting her leg behind her head, she learns, practices and teaches yoga because of its transformative powers in her life. Through reflecting on her struggles with self-esteem, weight and body image (at last count, she had tried over 65 different diets), she hopes to open possibilities for curvy individuals and their allies to enter into conversation and action around living joyfully regardless of size.

I may be the world’s expert on struggling to establish a home yoga practice and a boundless source of compassion when it comes to your efforts to get on the mat, but I am quite possibly the worst person to ask if you are having trouble downloading the videos, or accessing the members page.
